Bunker Hill is the perfect hike for all ages and has so many interesting features. Plus once you reach the top you have a breath taking 360-degree view of the surrounding area including bays, mountains, and even an airport.
Bunker Hill became a location for local defense after the Japanese bombed Dutch Harbor in 1942. It served as a point where military could fire in a 360 degree radius during World War II.
Today, the site has historical importance as well as beautiful natural surroundings. Take a short one mile hike to the top and you can view the surrounding scenery for miles.
The clear summit makes this an ideal spot for whale watching in July and August. Humpback whales often stop here to feed on their long trip back to their Hawaiian breeding grounds. You may also spot harbor seals, sea lions and a large variety of birds during your visit to Bunker Hill.
Surrounded by Captains Bay, Amaknak Island, Unalaska Bay and Iliuliuk Harbor, the water views are incredible. You can even view Mt. Ballyhoo and the airport that rests at its base.
