If you’re looking for an interesting historic home in Alaska to visit, you need to go to the Oscar Anderson House. This relic in downtown Anchorage is a wonderful peek into the past. As one of the oldest homes in Anchorage, it has withstood the great 1964 earthquake, as well as new urban builds nearby!
If you’re interested in Anchorage’s unique and fascinating history, you need to visit the Oscar Anderson House in downtown Anchorage.
Tent City was a small ramshackle group of homes on Ship Creek that became Anchorage’s early origins. Oscar Anderson became a busy and active Anchorage businessman throughout the years, with meat packing, coal production, air transportation, and newspaper publishing all a part of his business portfolio.

His widow, Elizabeth Anderson, donated the house to the city in 1976.
Because of Oscar Anderson’s role in the early history of Anchorage, and the architectural significance of the house, the home was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
The Oscar Anderson House also became a National Trust for Historic Preservation for "Distinctive Destination." It’s a fascinating spot with plenty of history!
Admission is $10.00 per adult and $5.00 for children aged 12 and younger.
