If you’re in the mood for an afternoon stroll through some of Alaska’s best natural scenery, the boreal forest trail will take through a beautiful forest and wetland area, all atop a gorgeous boardwalk trail. Located on Creamer’s Field in Fairbanks, Alaska, this is an easy trail that the whole family will love to hike. Keep your eyes peeled for the incredible birds you’ll see in this area!
On the hiking trails on Creamer’s Field Migratory Wildlife Refuge, you’ll find a lovely little loop that will take you through the surrounding area.
You’ll traipse through the boreal forest, and over seasonal wetlands. This is a great hike for spring, summer, and fall, although it can be very wet in the springtime.
There are plenty of boardwalks for you to use to escape the wet and muddy areas.
They wind through the forest and offer you the option of seeing some amazing wildlife, especially the migratory birds nearby. Bring your binoculars for close up views!

The trail is only 2.1 miles long, so it’s a quick one.
This is a great outing for those who don’t have too much time but would love to get out into the fresh air. The trees provide nice shelter from the sun if it’s a hot day.
There are plenty of spots to sit on a bench and enjoy the scenery, but if it’s too early in the spring season the benches may still be submerged in the pond’s overflow.
The trail is flat, with only 180 feet of elevation gain total across the entire walk.
While you’ll want to bring good shoes to walk in, you won’t have to worry about steep or rocky parts. The trail is very well maintained, and smooth and wide.
Even though this trail is popular it never feels crowded, as there’s so much room on the trail itself.
Because this trail winds through wetlands, there are lots of bugs and mosquitoes. Make sure to apply plenty of insect repellant before you head out on the trail.
You’ll love to take this great hike with the whole family. As an easy hike with plenty to see, it’s sure to be a hit!
