The Kalifornsky Beach Road is a lovely place to spend a summer day. Head to the south from Anchorage and take the Sterling Highway to Kalifornsky Beach Road. You will cruise along the shore and take in the strikingly beautiful mountains, the fresh air of the Cook Inlet and birds of many kinds. You can stop along the beach or just wind your way down the coast of the Kenai Peninsula. The Kalifornsky Beach Road is a lovely place to take a summer cruise.
On the Kenai Peninsula, take the Sterling Highway south to milepost 96.1. The Kalifornsky Beach Road runs from there along the shores of the Cook Inlet for 17 miles.
The soft black sand bakes and the grasses sway in the winds off the Cook Inlet. The water warms up on hot summer days for wading and playing in the sand.
Four wheelers, fishing and arctic terns are all familiar sites on Alaskan beaches. Stop by Kalifornsky Beach and enjoy the fresh breeze and local color.
Mount Redoubt looks over Kalifornsky Beach on a clear day. Redoubt is an active volcano, so look for dark smoke rising from the caldera. The 10,197 ft. volcano last erupted March, 2009.
