Watch The Wildflowers Pop Up On Alaska's Alpine Meadow Trail
If you want to get up high among the mountains, the Alpine Meadow Trail just outside of Homer, Alaska, gives you breathtaking views as you hike among the wildflowers. This wonderful trail offers peekaboo views of the glaciers across Kachemak Bay, and is easy enough for the whole family to hike.

This is a great, easy hike for all skill levels. It’s located inside Eveline State Recreation Site just outside of Homer, Alaska in Fritz Creek.

It has lovely features like a bridge, and even two picnic tables for when you’re finished with your hike and ready to break for lunch. The trail is well beaten down and easy to follow.

There’s a minimal 170 feet of elevation gain, and you’ll be hiking a path through wildflower fields. This is perfect for a slower day, or if you’re taking the kids for a hike.

You’ll be greeted with a surrounding landscape of rolling hills, Kachemak Bay, and the Kenai Mountains. Hanging glaciers will be visible, and flowers bloom all summer long.

June sees an explosion of lupine across the 80 acre countryside, and July and August sees the lovely fireweed. You’ll also come across wild geranium, chocolate lily, monk's hood, columbine, forget-me-nots, valerian blossoms, and more! There’s so many stunning flowers all over this area.

In fact, this is a popular cross country skiing area, and many events are held out here even in the winter. This area is run by the Alaska State Parks, and managed by the Kachemak Nordic Ski Club.

The turnoff for Alpine Meadow Drive is just past McNeil Canyon Elementary School. Head down the dirt road 3 miles and you’ll find the trailhead. It’s easy to find and there’s parking available nearby.
