Alaskans are known for some pretty unique things. From abandoned igloo hotels, to 185-foot-tall stacked log cabins in the middle of nowhere, we have our share of interesting places to see. Luckily, that means there’s plenty in this state to explore that’s wacky and fun. Our favorite Alaskan store in the middle of nowhere is without a doubt Wal*Mikes. Let us show you why:
Wal*Mikes is a wonderful little general store that also masquerades as a thrift store, gas station, antique shop, and a post office.
The store pre-dates the Parks Highway! It holds everything you could possibly need, and thousands of items you' never thought you would need. From antlers, to license plates, dog sleds, or single socks, locals want to check there first for any items they may need!
Wal*Mikes is a fantastic general store that labels itself as a museum, general store, and a commercial and industrial seller.
As some reviews have stated, "If you can't find it at Wal*Mikes, do you even need it?" It is a treasure trove of unique and amazing items, both antique and modern.

One of the most fun aspects of browsing around the store is the display of all of the different items.
From ducks lined up and balanced in fence holes, to books between needed windshield wiper fluid canisters, to a live reindeer on the property, there's plenty to see. Wal*Mikes definitely has some of the best Alaskana you'll find in the state.
There are also other transportation items, like snowshoes, a sled, and even a historical buggy. The buggy is a great piece of Alaskan history, as it was the buggy owned by the renowned Judge Wickersham of Fairbanks.
You can find Wal*Mikes at Mile 115.4 on the Parks Highway, or 23037 Mile West Parks Hwy., Trapper Creek, AK 99683.
You can visit them six days a week, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. If you want more up to date information, check out their Facebook page!
