The Stunning Works Of Art At The Alaska State Snow Sculpture Championship Will Wow You
Many people think that Alaska is dull or boring in the winter, but there are so many things to do all over the state. There are so many events to enjoy, like outdoor fun such as skiing or winter hiking, or winter festivals and carnivals. Every year during Fur Rondy in Anchorage, the Alaska State Snow Sculpture Championship showcases the most amazing snow sculptures you will ever see!

They come from all over to celebrate during the winter carnival festival, Fur Rondy. You'll see the artists bring their varying skill levels to the incredible artwork they create during the championship.

These huge, heavy, 8ft by 8ft by 8ft cubes of snow need a crane to be moved into their spot in Ship Creek. The entire area underneath the bridge is filled with artists and their tools.

The categories are: Team of Three, Schools, Families, Corporate, and Solo. There's also the People's Choice Award, which goes to the one the public loves the most.

They will end up representing Alaska in a larger arena. Winners were chosen on March 1st this year, so if you visit this weekend you will get to see who will head on to the national stage.

Visitors come from all over to see these fun snow sculptures. There's plenty of parking nearby, or you can make the short walk from downtown Anchorage!

You can see it every day from February 28th through March 8th, from 10:00 a.m. through 10:00 p.m. each day. The event is free for everyone, and is located under the bridge in Ship Creek, across from the Comfort Inn.
