Alaska is the largest state in America, and we have the beaches to prove it! With almost 34,000 miles of shoreline in the state, there are bays, coves, and beaches galore! But we have one Alaska beach whose easy accessibility makes it a favorite to drive up to. The Homer Spit Beach is not only stunning, but a great beach to take a stroll on, any time of the year.
The Homer Spit is a 4.5 mile piece of land jutting into Kachemak Bay.
Even observing for only a couple of minutes, you can see everything from sea otters to killer whales. This busy area by the docks are frequented by many types of marine life.
In fact, there are lots of bald eagle nests surrounding this beach area. You will frequently see many bald eagles during your time on the Homer Spit, including juveniles!
You can find many types of sea life! Expect to see sea stars, urchins, and octopus in the shallow waters. Alaskan marine life is incredible, and to be up close and personal with these animals are amazing.
This beach is very busy, especially with the fisherman.
Many of those who come out to fish have a lot of success fishing right off the beach! The views are spectacular, as well. You can see right across the bay, and watch the boats come in and out of the harbor.
If you're feeling like a little exercise, there is also has a beautiful sidewalk for pedestrians that runs the length of the entire spit.
The entire trail is paved and runs approximately 6.4 miles. It passes many different beaches on the spit, as well as the harbor and lagoon.
This Alaska beach is truly a stunner, with many glaciers in view from your spot. The driftwood makes for excellent seating if you'd like to rest awhile.
On a windy day you may see kite surfers, as well as kayakers out in the bay. The beaches surrounding Land's End are primarily rocky beaches, but if you head towards the city of Homer you will come across some beautiful sandy beaches, as well.
