Alabama is home to a variety of restaurants, including several that offer more than one type of food. A restaurant in particular is Little Donkey. To learn all about Little Donkey, including what makes it unique, take a look below.
Little Donkey is one of Alabama's most unique Mexican restaurants, and it has three locations: Homewood (pictured), Hoover, and Montgomery.
This award-winning restaurant opened for business in 2012 and hasn't looked back since. Thanks to its delicious food and welcoming atmosphere, people have been known to drive many miles to dine here.
Speaking of delicious food, Little Donkey specializes in Mexican food. However, it's not just any Mexican food. It's Mexican food with a Southern twist, which is what makes it such a unique restaurant. A couple of popular Mexican favorites on the menu include smoked beef brisket tacos and smoked chicken quesadillas.
If you're craving something other than Mexican food, no worries! Little Donkey offers other types of food as well, including their famous fried chicken. In fact, numerous people visit this restaurant regularly because of this Southern staple, which is available in three sizes: quarter, half, and whole. Each plate comes with rice, pickled vegetables, and your choice of black beans or pinto beans.
Plan a Local Food Tour
The only thing better than supporting local businesses this season is supporting local businesses that are lip-smacking delicious. Pinpoint a nearby town or city (you choose the distance you want to drive) and scout out a mini food tour. Is the place known for its key lime pie? Pulled pork? Malts and milkshakes? Whatever it is, make the tour official with scorecards for things like flavor, texture, and presentation at each stop. And if you’re all about the holiday season, opt for a festive-cookie or hot-cocoa theme.
Be sure to save room for the restaurant's famous churros. These popular fried pastries are served with a side of Mexican chocolate sauce and will satisfy any sweet tooth.
