Serious Southern question: Are you more of a cobbler person than a pie person? Curious about what makes cobbler different from pie?
There is broad agreement that both can have fruit fillings. That is almost always the case with cobblers and not as much with pies. Cobblers typically have only one layer of dough, which is on top and biscuit-like. Pies have pastry shells with a layer on the bottom and sometimes a layer on top. And there can be exceptions to all of this.
Clear as mud (pie), right? Here's the good news: You can fully sink your teeth into this debate at a new dessert shop in Trussville, Alabama, the Peach Cobbler Factory.
This chain started in Nashville in 2013 and has since become one of the fastest-growing dessert franchises. It has expanded to 20 states, with the Trussville location becoming its fourth in Alabama in late 2023. At the time it opened, the company also had seven additional locations preparing to open in the state.
While peach is the attention grabber, the shop offers a dozen different types of cobblers, from honey apple to sweet potato pecan. There are a dozen banana pudding cup options, too, from classic to bourbon pecan. You can also try any of these puddings in shake form – or pudd-n shakes, as they're called here. If you can't decide on a flavor, you can pick any four cobblers or puddings for a dessert flight.
There are decisions by the dozen when it comes to the deluxe cookie options, too. Flavors range from carnival to coconut chocolate swirl. You can upgrade any of these to make it a cobbler cookie for a couple of bucks.
Beyond the cobblers, puddings, and cookies, you can also choose from cinnamon rolls, brownies, Belgian waffles, and churro sticks. You can order from six different varieties in each of these categories.
