Alabama Just Wouldn't Be The Same Without These 8 Charming Small Towns

Magnolia Springs is located in Baldwin County, Alabama and is famous for its stunning tree-lined streets. But that's not all! This small town, which sits at the headwaters of the Magnolia River, is also the only town in the continental U.S. with a river mail route.

Tuscumbia, the seat of Colbert County, was established in 1820 and is one of North Alabama's most historic and charming small towns. Mooresville of Limestone County was incorporated in 1818, making it one of Alabama's oldest towns. With less than 100 residents, it's also one of the state's smallest towns. In addition to its charming homes, what makes Mooresville such a unique place is that the entire town is included on the National Register of Historic Places. It's also home to Alabama's oldest operating post office (pictured), which was built circa 1840.

Fairhope is located in Baldwin County and has been named the most beautiful small town in Alabama on more than one occasion. In addition to its wonderful downtown area, its beautiful homes, and its lovely tree-lined streets, Fairhope is also the perfect destination for a weekend getaway.

Mentone, which is located atop of Lookout Mountain in DeKalb County, offers the most gorgeous views. One of the town's most popular attractions that attracts people from near and far is DeSoto Falls (pictured). Because Mentone has less than 500 residents, it's a great place to visit if you're looking to escape the crowds.

When it comes to Southern charm, no other place comes closer than Eufaula. Eufaula is located in Barbour County and is home to beautiful Lake Eufaula, the Bass Fishing Capital of the World. This town is also home to many charming antebellum homes, including the famous Shorter Mansion (pictured).

Monroeville, which is known as "The Literary Capital of Alabama," is the seat of Monroe County. Many famous writers and authors are from this charming small town, including Truman Capote and Harper Lee. Speaking of Harper Lee, she's the author of the novel "To Kill a Mockingbird." The town's main attraction is the Old Monroe County Courthouse (pictured). The courthouse in the film adaptation of Lee's novel was actually based on the interior of the town's historic courthouse. Thousands of people visit Monroeville each year because of its association with this award-winning novel and film.

Alabama, especially Orange Beach, is known for having some of the most beautiful beaches in the U.S. Orange Beach is also one of the state's most beautiful coastal towns and top vacation spots.
