According to historical records, the production of pig iron began at Sloss Furnaces in 1882. In fact, this blast furnace was once the largest manufacturer of pig iron in the world. Sloss Furnaces closed in 1970.
Over the years, many people have claimed to experience paranormal activity during their visit to Sloss Furnaces. These claims are fully detailed in several Birmingham police records.
Many people have supposedly seen ghostly apparitions, one of which was James Wormwood, a former blast foreman that treated his workers terribly. Mr. Wormwood worked the graveyard shift, and it's believed the workers banded together and threw him into the molten fires of the furnace because of their mistreatment.
While exploring Sloss Furnaces, several visitors have also claimed to hear strange noises and felt sudden temperature drops throughout the facility. Paranormal investigators have reported hearing screams and seeing shadows.
