People Travel From All Over The US To Hike At Sipsey Wilderness, Alabama's Largest Wilderness Area

It’s no secret Alabama is home to some of the best hiking spots around. In fact, many outdoor enthusiasts have been known to travel numerous miles to explore our many hiking destinations. One of these hiking destinations is the Sipsey Wilderness, which you can learn all about below.
The Sipsey Wilderness, which was established n 1975, is located within North Alabama's William B. Bankhead National Forest. It's an absolute must-visit for anyone who enjoys hiking.
Speaking of hiking, this scenic wilderness area features 45 miles of trails. Because the trails' level of difficulty range from easy to moderate, pretty much anyone can explore them.
The Sipsey Wilderness covers nearly 26,000 acres, which makes it Alabama's largest wilderness area. It's also the Yellowhammer State's most visited wilderness spot. People travel from all over the country, and even world, to explore this popular hiking destination.
While exploring the Sipsey Wilderness, you'll encounter several incredible features, including the Sipsey River. This scenic river is 145 miles long.
You'll also encounter quite a few waterfalls, which is the main reason why this wilderness area is nicknamed "Land of a Thousand Waterfalls." Pictured is Turkey Foot Falls.
Several sandstone boulders and scenic overlooks are also located throughout the Sipsey Wilderness area. In fact, some of the boulder sizes will amaze you. They're huge!
For hikers who wish to stay overnight in the Sipsey Wilderness, several campsites are available. Whether you wish to camp for one night or longer, it'll most certainly be an experience like no other.
