Tired of peopling and needing a break from it all? Slip away to this secluded cabin on the water in Satsuma, Alabama. First, it’s a one-of-a-kind getaway in the beautiful, biologically diverse Mobile-Tensaw River Delta. And when you consider the amenities and views, you won’t delay in heading south and checking out.
The cabin is located on Gunnison Creek in Satsuma, which is about 15 miles north of Mobile. The Gunnison Creek Watershed is part of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, a National Natural Landmark and the second-largest delta in the US. The area covers around 300 square miles and over 260,000 acres of water, bottomland forest, swamps, and marshes.
When you arrive, you'll park and follow a long boardwalk to the cabin. If you arrive at dusk or after and can't imagine it in the dark, don't worry – it's well-lit. It is a few minutes' walk though, so be prepared for that (luggage assistance is available).
The cabin is a charming A-frame structure with a dock that's almost as big. Guests have the option of renting a jet ski, a boat, and hydro bikes. If you rent the ski or boat, they include a pull-behind tube and wakeboard. You're also welcome to drop a line and fish for bream, largemouth bass, and crappie, to name just a few among the hundreds found in this region.
People also enjoy the dock for fishing or just hanging around in the cozy seating area. It's a beautiful spot to relax and take in the surroundings, birds, and other animals. The unique ecosystem of the region supports over 370 different birds, including osprey, red-wing blackbirds, great blue herons, laughing gulls, snowy egrets, mockingbirds, and white ibises. If you're wondering about bringing your pet, this cabin is pet-friendly with specific terms.
By night, the entire outdoor space twinkles, offering just the right amount of light to create a magical vibe. While the cabin does have Direct TV service, a Playstation, and a Roku device with DVD capabilities, you may not even want to venture inside.
Even when you do retreat indoors, you're not far from the waterfront views. The loft bedroom is opposite the soaring windows, so you'll retire to starry skies, and the tranquil water will be the first thing you see in the morning.
The loft bedroom is the main sleeping space, so ideally this cabin is best suited for two. However, it can accommodate four people with the use of a queen-sized air mattress, which is also provided.
