1. Turkey Creek Nature Preserve - Pinson
Turkey Creek Nature Preserve covers nearly 500 acres and protects some of the Southeast's most beautiful scenery. It's also home to one of Alabama's most beautiful waterfalls. 2. Hays Nature Preserve - Owens Cross Roads
Hays Nature Preserve, located near Huntsville, is one of Alabama's true hidden gems. Unless you’re a local, you may not be familiar with this little-known oasis. Hays Nature Preserve is situated along the Flint River and offers a variety of fun activities such as hiking, biking, horseback riding and fishing. (7153 Hwy 431 S)

3. Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve - Tuscumbia
Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve, which is located in Colbert County, covers approximately 700 acres and is one of Alabama's most beautiful nature spots. With more than 15 miles of hiking trails, this nature preserve is an outdoorsman's paradise. (251 Loop Rd)

4. Graham Creek Nature Preserve - Foley
Graham Creek Nature Preserve is Foley's best-kept secret. Besides offering nearly 500 acres of natural habitats, it also offers a variety of outdoor attractions, including an 18 basket disc golf course, an archery park and a canoe/kayak launch. (23460 Wolf Bay Dr)

5. Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve - Birmingham
Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve is a scenic area that covers 1,038 acres. From the late 1800s to the 1950s, iron ore mining was the main activity that took place on Ruffner Mountain. Today, when you visit Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve, you'll have an opportunity to experience a great view of the former quarry. (1214 81st St S)

6. Moss Rock Preserve - Hoover
Moss Rock Preserve is located on the outskirts of Birmingham and covers 250 acres. It features waterfalls, rare plants and several rock formations. Moss Rock Preserve is one of Alabama's finest natural attractions. (617 Preserve Pkwy)

7. Village Point Park Preserve - Daphne
Village Point Park Preserve is Daphne's largest park. It's also home to one of the largest and most historic live oaks in Alabama - the Jackson Oak (pictured). Another interesting fact about this park is that some of North America's earliest inhabitants lived and roamed on its land.

8. Little River Canyon National Preserve - Fort Payne
Little River Canyon National Preserve is located atop Lookout Mountain and is best known as the "Grand Canyon of the East." 9. Wade Mountain Nature Preserve - Huntsville
