Fans of the 1992 comedy My Cousin Vinny can usually quote a certain line about Alabama that helped make the film a classic. The line got huge laughs, but it’s worth remembering that Bill and Stan, the two college-age protagonists, were actually driving through the state to enjoy Alabama’s scenery on their way to California. If only they didn’t stop at the Sack O’ Suds! Bill and Stan could have spent a night or two experiencing more of the lush green mountains and valleys of Sweet Home Alabama. You still can get a front-row view of Alabama’s beautiful scenery and natural appeal from the porch of Alabama’s best cabins along the many rivers and lakes in the state; notably, along the Gulf of Mexico and the Appalachian (locally known as Coosa) Valley.
National Geographic includes Eagle Cottages at Gulf State Park on its prestigious list of "Unique Lodges of the World" -- and it's easy to see why.
Each of these luxury cottages has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a living room, and a full kitchen. And yes, that is the Gulf of Mexico out there!
The beautiful cabins in Gulf State Park are about a mile from the titular Gulf. Take in the view of the freshwater Lake Shelby over a meal or cocktail right from the porch!
Book a studio, two-bedroom, or three-bedroom cabin for your perfect Gulf vacation. Leave your cooking and kitchen gear at home, because each cabin's kitchen has everything you'll need. Linens are included, as well.
There are a number of cabins available for rent around the mountain. The The Bird's Eye View features a huge picture window perfect for enjoying sunsets over the valley and features new construction. It looks rustic, but inside it's quite modern.

What a view of the western side of Cheaha Mountain in the Talladega National Forest! The mountain is the highest point in the state and really captures Alabama's scenery.
The cabins at Cheaha State Park - the oldest park in the state - were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s. Depending on which cabin you choose, you can host up to four people. Just four cabins share this magnificent view, but the others are close by and include two in a more romantic. wooded setting a bit off the main loop. Amenities vary by cabin.
Want some peace and quiet around you? The cabins at Monte Sano State Park are nestled in an urban nature preserve just outside Huntsville.
Monte Sano - Spanish for "Mountain of Health" - has includes 11 cabins that were also constructed by the CCC and are located right on the mountain. Most were built in the stone "arts and crafts" style popular in the 1930s, and include fireplaces. Three are wood-framed cabins with screened-in porches, but no fireplaces. One cabin is ADA-compliant.
Many of Alabama’s 22 state parks rent out cabins at very reasonable prices, and there are also loads of AirBNBs offering unique accommodations, too! Because so much of the state is rural and the cities are really more like small towns, there’s an abundance of natural beauty in Alabama to appreciate. The real question is: where will you begin?
