Cherokee Rock Village, which covers 200 acres and was established in 1974, is a public park that's located near Leesburg, Alabama.
Overlooking Alabama's beautiful Weiss Lake, this unique park is situated atop the southern end of Lookout Mountain.
Cherokee Rock Village's main feature is its massive sandstone boulders, which date back 300 million years. Some of these boulders are as tall as 200 feet.
From 8000 BC to 1838, Cherokee Rock Village was the home to many Native Americans. It's also believed that these Native Americans used the prominent boulders as a ceremonial site.
Today, the park's boulders attract rock climbers from near and far. As a matter of fact, Cherokee Rock Village is one of the premier rock climbing sites in the country.
In addition to rock climbing, visitors of Cherokee Rock Village also have access to 14 miles of hiking, equestrian and mountain biking trails. Primitive camping is also available.
