There’s no denying that Alabama is a hiker’s dream. After all, hikers from all around the world come here to explore our amazing trails. While some of our trails are long and difficult, many others are much more low key, meaning they’re short and easy enough for anyone to hike. One trail in particular that fits this description is Pulpit Rock Trail, which you can read all about below.
Alabama's Pulpit Rock Trail is a 0.6-mile, out-and-back trail that's located within Cheaha State Park near the town of Heflin.

This short and scenic trail, which is accessible year-round, is an easy hike that's great for all skill levels. Keep in mind, there's some rocky terrain and steep inclines at the beginning of the trail, but it eventually evens out for a smooth and rewarding hike.
Over the years, Pulpit Rock Trail, which is situated atop Cheaha Mountain (Alabama's highest point), has attracted hikers from all across the Southeast and beyond. If you've ever hiked this trail, you'll understand why.
Waiting at the end of the trail is Pulpit Rock, which is one of Alabama's most popular overlooks.
From this overlook, hikers will experience an incredible view of the Talladega National Forest, which covers nearly 400,000 acres and is one of four national forests in Alabama.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the view from Pulpit Rock is that you're able to see for miles and miles. It's positively breathtaking!
And nothing beats a sunset view from Pulpit Rock. This evening view alone makes the hike well worth it.
NOTE: The trails at Cheaha State Park close at sundown, so you'll want to head back after your hike (if the sun has already set).
