The Museum Of Medical Oddities In Alabama Is Not For The Faint Of Heart

Alabama is home to such a variety of museums. One of these museums in particular is the Mobile Medical Museum. For information about this museum, including what makes it different from other museums throughout the state, take a look below.
The Mobile Medical Museum is located inside the historic Vincent-Doan-Walsh House, which is situated on the campus of USA Children's and Women's Hospital in Mobile, Alabama.
This unique museum was founded by Dr. Samuel Eichold II in 1962 and is dedicated to the practice of local and world medical history.
The Mobile Medical Museum features more than 5,000 medical documents and artifacts, including several on display in this exam room.
During your visit, you'll see several types of medical equipment, including this iron lung from 1933. The iron lung helped polio patients breathe.
You might also spot a snake bite kit from 1945. This particular kit was used by soldiers during World War II.
And of course, no medical museum is complete without a few skeletons. At the Mobile Medical Museum, a few real human skeletons are on display. The ones pictured below are more than 140 years old. One is a male and the other one is a female.
