Alabama is home to several towns with a vibrant arts scene and quirky attractions. These towns are full of eccentricity and a must visit for art and history lovers. From art festivals to whimsical homes, Mobile is quite possibly the most eccentric town of them all. Read on to learn all about this artsy town.
Mobile, which was founded in 1702, is Alabama's fourth most populated city. It's also the state's only saltwater port.
The main event that takes place in Mobile each year is Mardi Gras, which originally began in Alabama in 1703. This celebration is a huge reason why Mobile is such an eccentric place to be.
To learn all about the original Mardi Gras, you'll want to visit the Mobile Carnival Museum, which is located at 355 Government Street.
From statues to costumes, and everything in between, you'll see all kinds of Mardi Gras memorabilia during your visit.
Another popular event in Mobile is the LODA Artwalk, which takes place the second Friday of each month. This event features art exhibitions and entertainment in the Lower Dauphin (LoDa) Arts District.
Mobile is also home to several art shops you can visit anytime you'd like.

Mobile's Magnolia Cemetery is quite possibly the most beautiful cemetery in Alabama. The variety of gravestones and funerary art on display are positively breathtaking!
