Most downtown areas feature specialty shops, restaurants, theaters, and so much more. The downtown area, or as many refer to it as “Main Street,” truly is the heart of the community.
There are many wonderful Main Streets located throughout Alabama, and listed below are 7 of the very best.
Downtown Florence is located in North Alabama and is, without a doubt, the ultimate shopping destination. A couple of popular stores include Billy Reid and JAR & Company. A variety of dining establishments are also located in downtown Florence, including The Pie Factory and Ricatoni's Italian Grill. "First Fridays" is held in downtown Florence on the first Friday evening of each month (Mar-Dec). During this popular event, businesses stay open late and downtown Florence comes alive with shopping, art and entertainment for the entire family.

Eufaula, located in southeast Alabama, is known for its charming antebellum homes. It's also one of the most picturesque and historic towns in the South. Eufaula's historic downtown area is filled with many unique shops that attract visitors from all over.
Selma is located in Dallas County, on the banks of the Alabama River. This historic city is best known for the "Selma to Montgomery Marches," which took place on the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Selma's downtown area includes a few shops, the public library and the historic St. James Hotel.

Monroeville's historic downtown area features many unique shops and restaurants, but its main feature is the Old Monroe County Courthouse. Today, this courtroom is one of the most recognized in the world because of the novel's film adaptation.
