When it comes to hiking, Alabama is home to some of the very best trails. In fact, people have been known to travel from all across the country, and even the world, to explore our trails. A great trail to hike here in the Yellowhammer State is Deer Skull Falls and Wolfpen Falls Loop. To learn why this trail is such a great hiking spot, take a look below.
Deer Skull Falls and Wolfpen Falls Loop, which has a moderate rating, is a 6.7-mile loop trail that's tucked away in North Alabama's Sipsey Wilderness area near Haleyville. The Sipsey Wilderness is located within the Bankhead National Forest and is one of the South's top hiking destinations.

Even though Alabama is filled with many hiking trails, this particular one has been known to attract fewer people. In fact, Insider named it Alabama's "Least Congested Hiking Trail" in 2020.
While hiking Deer Skull Falls and Wolfpen Falls Loop, you'll encounter all kinds of beautiful pieces of nature, including waterfalls.
Deer Skull Falls and Wolfpen Falls are of course the most popular falls along the trail, hence its name. However, there are several others you'll encounter. Keep in mind, the best time to explore this trail is after a heavy rainfall so the waterfalls will be flowing at their fullest.
You'll also encounter massive boulders along the trail, some of which can be walked under. Many years ago, these particular boulders were likely used for shelter.
Deer Skull Falls and Wolfpen Falls Loop is used for a variety of activities other than hiking, one of which is camping. There are several campsites located along the trail.
