Main Street Cafe, which opened for business in 2000, is located in downtown Madison. It's one of Alabama's most unique restaurants.
What makes this restaurant so incredibly unique is the fact that it's housed inside the building that was once used as the city hall and jail.
Visitors of Main Street Cafe have a variety of dining options, one of which is to reserve one of the restaurant's two private dining rooms. These two dining rooms are original jail cells.
Without a doubt, the jail cells' set of original bars is the most unique feature of these two private dining rooms.
When it comes to food, Main Street Cafe offers a great variety of Southern comfort food. Everything is made fresh daily with high quality ingredients.
One of the restaurant's most popular dishes is its Chicken Salad Plate, which comes with a serving of homemade chicken salad, a frozen arctic salad, English pea salad, and a slice of pumpkin bread.
Another dish at Main Street Cafe that's become quite popular over the years is the Strawberry Pretzel Salad. In fact, people have been known to drive many miles for a slice of this dessert, which consists of a pretzel base that's been topped with cream cheese, Cool Whip, and strawberry gelatin. It's the perfect combination of salty and sweet.
In addition to indoor seating, Main Street Cafe also features an outside dining patio that visitors enjoy using during the warmer months. It also offers a great view of downtown.
