Located in Perry County, Perry Lakes Park is a natural river bottomland and one of Alabama’s most beautiful areas. This 600-acre park offers excellent outdoor recreation in an undeveloped river bottom, while providing many educational opportunities. Perry Lakes Park’s interpretive nature trails will make it easy for you to navigate your way through the wooded areas. The primitive trails will lead you into the wilds of the park.
Perry Lakes Park includes four oxbow lakes. These incredible lakes, which are surrounded by a hardwood bottomland forest, were formed nearly 150 years ago when the Cahaba River altered its channel. While you’re near these lake areas, be sure to keep a close watch for snakes and alligators. You just might see a few.
As you make your way through Perry Lakes Park, several unique features will catch your eye. They were designed by Auburn University architecture students, and a few of them include the following:

A footpath will lead you directly from Perry Lakes Park to Barton’s Beach – the Cahaba River’s largest sand/gravel bar. Barton’s Beach is used heavily by nesting turtles.
