There are many historic buildings that remind us of Alabama’s past. From homes and churches, to theatres and hotels, the list is endless. One city in Alabama that has numerous historic buildings is Birmingham. Seven of these historic buildings are listed below.
1. The Tutwiler Hotel

The Tutwiler Hotel was originally built in 1914 and is known as Birmingham's first modern hotel. It's also believed to be one of Alabama's most haunted hotels due to reports of flickering lights, strange noises, etc.
2. 16th Street Baptist Church
16th Street Baptist Church, 1530 6th Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203, USA
On September 15, 1963, four young African American girls were killed at this church by four members of a local Ku Klux Klan chapter via a bomb. It's one of the saddest moments in Alabama's history.

3. Arlington Antebellum Home
Arlington Antebellum Home & Gardens, 331 Cotton Ave SW, Birmingham, AL 35211, USA
The Arlington Antebellum Home was built between the years 1845-50, making it Birmingham's oldest antebellum home. It's situated on six acres and is currently operated as a museum.
During the early 1900s in Birmingham, four skyscraper office buildings were built at the intersection of 20th Street and 1st Avenue North. These include the Woodward Building, the Brown Max Building, the Empire Building, and the American Trust and Savings Bank. Because of these buildings' massive sizes, this corner eventually earned the nickname "Heaviest Corner on Earth."
5. Lyric Theatre

The Lyric Theatre was built in 1914 for B.F. Keith’s Vaudeville circuit. It's one of the few theatres that still exists today, that was designed to maximize sound and close seating that are both needed for vaudeville shows. A few of the biggest stars to ever perform at the Lyric Theatre include the Marx Brothers, Mae West, Will Rogers, and Milton Berle.
6. Alabama Power Company
Alabama Power, 13th St S, Birmingham, AL 35294, USA
The Alabama Power Company has been providing power to millions of people since 1906. It's 16 stories high, making it one of the city's tallest buildings.
7. Cathedral Church of the Advent
Cathedral Church of the Advent, 2017 6th Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203, USA
The Cathedral Church of the Advent is the mother church of the Episcopal parishes in the Birmingham area. It was established as a parish church in 1872 and was one of the first churches to be built in downtown Birmingham.
