While driving through our great state, it’s not uncommon to encounter many churches. After all, Alabama is a huge part of the Bible Belt. If you’ve ever driven through Dallas County, specifically along County Road 55 in Sardis, you’ve probably stumbled upon Adams Grove Presbyterian Church. If not, you’ve probably heard of it.
Adams Grove Presbyterian Church, which was built in 1853, is a historic Greek Revival-style church. This style of architecture was quite popular during the 1800s. In 1974, the church's last congregation was held. In 1986, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
A feature that makes Adams Grove Presbyterian Church truly unique is that it's one of the few pre-Civil War churches left standing in the area. It's amazing this historic church has remained intact throughout the years. From its windows to its walls, everything about its architecture is original.
What most people don't know about Adams Grove Presbyterian Church and its attached cemetery is that it's one of Alabama's most haunted locations. Ever since its last congregation, strange occurrences have been reported by residents of Dallas County. Over the years, paranormal investigators have also witnessed strange things happening.
Several people have reported seeing a shadowy man with fiery red eyes in both the church and the cemetery, which was established five years before the church was built. Many people have also reported seeing the ghost of a Confederate soldier ordering trespassers off the property if they enter the cemetery.
In addition to the shadowy man and Confederate soldier, several people have also spotted the ghost of a former minister inside the church right before a major thunderstorm. The sounds of a crying baby have also been heard throughout the church.
Even though numerous people have visited Adam's Grove Presbyterian Church over the years, it's important to keep in mind that it's now privately owned.
