Alabama is home to many places that are filled with lots of history. One of these places in particular is The Peerless Saloon. In addition to being filled with lots of history, The Peerless Saloon is also considered to be the most haunted bar in Alabama. To learn about this historic and haunted bar, take a look below.
The Peerless Saloon is located in historic downtown Anniston, Alabama.
It was established in 1899, making it Alabama's oldest operating bar. Over the years, it's also become a popular gathering spot for locals and visitors alike.
Other than its fascinating history, one of the most interesting things about The Peerless Saloon is its fancy mirror-backed bar. This bar was custom made for the 1904 World's Fair and was installed a couple of years later at The Peerless Saloon.
In addition to the downstairs area, what's waiting on the second floor of The Peerless Saloon has just as much history, if not more. It's the Atlanta Room. From 1899 to 1927, this room was home to an infamous brothel. In the early 1900s, it's believed Lucinda Talley, the queen of the brothel, was waiting at the top of the stairs for her gentlemen to arrive. During this time, a policeman chased a saloon patron upstairs. Unfortunately, Ms. Talley was accidentally shot and killed. Her spirit is believed to be haunting The Peerless Saloon today.
The next time you're in Anniston and wanting to visit one of Alabama's most historic places where you can have a drink and possibly a paranormal experience, consider The Peerless Saloon. There's no other place quite like it.
