Cahawba, which is also known as Old Cahawba and Cahaba, is located in Dallas County, Alabama. It's one of the state's most famous ghost towns.
Between the years 1818-1826, Cahawba served as Alabama's first state capital. Today, the town is used as an archaeological park that attracts visitors from all over the Southeast and beyond.
While strolling the grounds of Cahawba, you'll encounter many things that'll remind you of the town's past, including a slave burial ground that was created in 1819.
