Alabama is home to such a variety of trails. While many of them are long and tedious, others are quite short and sweet. One of the Yellowhammer State’s short and sweet trails that belongs on everyone’s hiking bucket list is the Beaverdam Swamp Boardwalk. The Beaverdam Swamp Boardwalk is located near Huntsville, Alabama and is part of the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge.

This 1.1-mile, out-and-back trail is one of North Alabama's hidden gems. To reach it, you'll simply take a detour off I-565 on County Line Road. You'll then turn right and travel south. You'll take a right at the second road and follow it until you reach the very end.

The Beaverdam Swamp Boardwalk is surrounded by beautiful Swamp Tupelos, which are trees that are able to constantly grow within a flooded environment. You might even see a variety of animals during your hike, which love the fruits that fall from these trees, including Wood Ducks, water snakes, and possibly an American alligator.
This boardwalk trail is accessible year-round and mostly used for walking, running, and nature trips. It's also part of the North Alabama Birding Trail, so bird watching is another popular activity enjoyed by many hikers of this trail.
Because of its easy rating, the Beaverdam Swamp Boardwalk is the perfect trail for all abilities. It's also child and pet friendly.
Located along this boardwalk, there are also benches where you can sit and further enjoy the natural scenery that surrounds you. It truly is a beautiful trail that should be enjoyed by everyone.
