Alabaster, which has a population of nearly 34,000, is located in Shelby County, Alabama and is a suburb of Birmingham, aka "The Magic City."
It was incorporated in 1953 and given the name "Alabaster" for its quality of lime rock. Several important dates have taken place in this once tiny town. For example, its first retail business opened in 1925. In 1951, the town's first post office opened. And in 1959, Shelby Memorial Hospital opened, which was Shelby County's first hospital.

Limestone Park covers approximately 100 acres, which consist of locally rare habitats such as a Water Tupelo Swamp and one of the largest beaver marshes in the area. Because it's part of the Alabama Birding Trails system, this park is a definite must-visit for bird enthusiasts.
