Its construction was completed in 1939, and it housed mental patients until 1977. Sadly, according to numerous reports, the Jemison Center treated its patients horribly, which ultimately led to its closing.

The Jemison Center isn't the only abandoned building on the property that's been reclaimed by nature. There's also the S.D. Allen Intermediate Care Facility, which opened in the 1970s and closed in 2003.
