The Underrated Colorado Lake That's Perfect For A Summer Day
It is no secret that Colorado is home to some of the most pristine lakes in the country, and while we cannot get enough of places like Hanging Lake and Sky Pond, we sometimes crave nothing more than some peace and quiet. All of that being said, if you are looking for a lake day that is as gorgeous as it is tranquil, we recommend visiting this underrated Colorado lake that is perfect for a summer day:
You aren’t dreaming folks… these photos are of a REAL place in Colorado! Welcome to the stunning Island Lake; a small lake in the beautiful San Juan National Forest that features some of the most turquoise waters in the state. Accessible only by hike, Island Lake is located within Silverton’s Upper Ice Lake Basin and features not only eye-popping shades of blue, but also vibrant greens, purples, and yellows from its surrounding meadows. (As per the Outdoor Project, few people make the 8-mile round-trip trek on weekdays, so plan your adventure for then!)
The trailhead to Island Lake is located off U.S. Forest Service Road 585 and South Mineral Campground. For more information, please visit Colorado Tourism’s website.
