I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
As the color of the leaves began to change, Kentuckians prepare for the autumn season and weather changes. We all have our fall traditions, and most of us start preparing early when possible. Fall may not seem as exciting as other seasons, but there are plenty of things Bluegrass State residents both need, and want to do.
Here are 10 things most Kentuckians do during the Fall:
When fall arrives it means winter is coming. This means it's time to add that extra weather stripping, plastic up windows, and reinforce any areas where cool air might cause our electric bills to rise.
Most of us have our spring and summer clothes and our fall and winter clothes. The beginning of the fall is when most Kentuckians do their seasonal closet switch!
Fall is a beautiful time to visit our local or state parks. With the leaves changing, the scenery becomes a breathtaking display of fiery reds and browns. It can make for a very relaxing drive or walk.
If you have a tree in the yard, than you likely rake leaves during the fall season. We can go to bed with the grass green, and wake up with shades or brown, orange, yellow, and red all over the yard.
Fall is full of festivals including fresh baked goods, pumpkin varieties, beer, bourbon, barbecue, music, and more. Almost every week there's some type of festival somewhere in the Bluegrass State.
Not all Kentuckians fish and hunt, but many participate in turkey or deer hunting, or fall fishing. Fresh fish and other meats are far better than anything you can buy in the store… even a Butterball.
Fall is the perfect season for camping out with friends and family. The mosquitoes and other annoying insects are not as active, and the temperatures are perfect for a camp fire.
Break out the boots, or get a new pair. Fall is the perfect season to wear our stylish boots, including heels. Wearing anything with a heel once the snow and ice of winter arrive can be a challenge.
Fall is the ideal time to build a bonfire and enjoy the crisp evening air in front of an open fire, roasting marshmallows and sipping cocoa, coffee, or beer.
Fall is a comfortable time of year in Kentucky, and the perfect time to prepare for winter. The wonderful scents of cinnamon and spices often waft through the air at local bakeries, or at Grandma’s house. It’s the favored time of year for many residents. What are your fall traditions, or favorite things to do as the season changes?
