The civilized afternoon tea has become something of a lost art, particularly in middle America. While Nebraska women in the 1800s enjoyed taking time out of their day to catch up with friends over delicate snacks and cups of tea, today we all seem a bit too busy for this calm ritual. In fact, just in the past few years the majority of Nebraska’s modern tea rooms have closed down permanently. There aren’t many places to enjoy an afternoon tea in Nebraska these days, but these tea rooms are keeping the tradition alive.
This classy little place is a restaurant and art gallery that specializes in creating wonderful memories. Every Wednesday through Saturday between 11 am and 2 pm is high tea. The sophisticated mini-meal includes soup, little sandwiches, sweets, and of course your own teapot and teacup.
High tea is available by reservation only. If you mention that you'll be dining with little girls, the restaurant will even decorate the table with sweet little dolls.
Find Simply Delicious Restaurant at 215 N Spruce St., Valley. See their website for more information.
Take a break from your regular, busy life and enjoy some slow-paced fun with friends. The themed teas are so much fun - they range from holiday celebrations to Parisian-themed to teddy bears and so many in between. You can reserve the space to have your baby or bridal shower, birthday party, or other gathering.
Find Special Teas for Special People at 120 S 13th St in Dakota City. More information on pricing and special events is available on their Facebook page.
T Party Place is an event venue that you can book for parties, luncheons, and other events. There is also a tea that's open to the public, though reservations are strongly recommended to ensure there is enough space for everyone. Book your special lady's birthday party here, or stop by on the 15th for scones, tea, finger sandwiches, and other treats. Come dressed up or raid the T Party Place's costume collection for fun clothing and accessories to make your tea time truly special.
The T Party Place is located at 430 Seward St in Seward. Find out more about this unique place and its fun events on their Facebook page.
4. Whispering Pines Bed and Breakfast, Nebraska City
This beautiful, relaxing B&B doesn't offer tea parties every day, but it deserves a place on this list because of its special event teas. A few times a year, the Victorian home opens its doors - and, weather permitting, its gardens - for tea parties. Enjoy an assortment of unusual teas served in antique tea cups alongside dainty sandwiches, sweet little cakes, and other yummy treats.
The fancy dining events at Serendipity Chocolate Factory - a part of Master's Hand Candles - are technically known as luncheons. But the spirit of afternoon tea is strong at these luncheons, which must be booked in advance. You'll get to enjoy a light meal along with a delicious dessert made in the onsite bakery, all in the company of your best friends, coworkers, or whoever you decide to invite along to your special meal.
Find Serendipity Chocolate Factory/Master's Hand Candles at Highway 75 3599 County Rd F in Tekamah. Their website and Facebook page have more information about booking your own luncheon.
These places are all so special for a leisurely afternoon treat. Are there any other tea rooms in Nebraska that we missed? Be sure to add them to the list in the comments!
