In the new “millennial” order of things, if you want a cup of tea or coffee you still get it, but it’s served in a to-go cup. It’s also usually topped with some pretty fancy whipped delight – or spiked with extra caffeine.
Fortunately, for those of us who prefer a more traditional kind of tea, there are some bonafide “tea rooms” in South Carolina where a group of friends can have tea – complete with crumpets and more. Here’s a list:
1. Laura's Tea Room - 105 N Palmer St, Ridgeway, SC 29130
Historic Ridgeway brings a little of the English lifestyle to South Carolina at this proper tea room. Laura's serves High Tea from Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Need a fancy tea hat? No worries. There's an historic mercantile (and a cafe) on the first floor and they sell hats that are perfect for High Tea.
2. Olwen McKenna's Tea Room - 1309A Main St
Newberry, SC
For many, Olwen McKenna's is the heart of Main Street in Newberry. Reservations are hard to come by, but the word is it's totally worth the wait. You and your friends will love gathering at this beautiful Victorian Tea Room for cup of tea! Open Wednesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Their
Facebook page posted they'll be open for reservations only through June 30, 2017.
3. Top Hat Special Teas - 234 W Evans St, Florence, SC 29501
A charming cup of tea can be found in downtown Florence at Top Hat Teas. Not only that, but also lunch! It's served Monday through Friday.
4. Southern Belle Tearoom and Café (formerly Goodness and Mercy) - 1405 Bypass 72 NE Greenwood, SC
Open Tuesday through Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m., this tea room in Greewood serves tea time delights perfectly paired with your morning or afternoon tea.
5. LaDolce - 967 Dougherty Rd Aiken, SC
LaDolce is a double treat - they're also a bakery. Find your favorite hat, order some tasty treats and then sit back and relax while you enjoy your cup of tea at LaDolce.
6. Just Because IYQ Tea Room - 2520 Hwy 17 Bus South, Oasis Plaza Unit 4, Murrells Inlet, SC (Garden City)
We love the name of this tea room! They serve Morning Tea, Afternoon Tea and High Tea along with a light lunch menu. You'll also find unique tea gifts and accessories. A recent Facebook post announced an open house to meet the new owners. The Open House is on June 15, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
7. Silverspoon Tea Room - The Gallery @ 1104 Caldwell St Newberry, SC
Located within The Gallery on Caldwell, Silverspoon Tea Room puts the proper in a proper cup of tea. They also serve a light fare menu. Open on Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
8. Palmetto Tea Room - 2030 Lyttleton St, Camden, SC
Palmetto Tea Room serves both tea and coffee, plus homemade soups, quiche, sides and sandwiches. Don't have a proper hat for tea? Not to worry. They even have a hat you can wear. Palmetto Tea Room is open on Wednedsday and Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
9. The Cottage Cafe Bakery & Tea Room - 38 Calhoun St, Bluffton, SC 29910
The Cottage is well known as one of the top restaurants in Bluffton. But they also serve Afternoon Tea - by reservation. This could be a fun outing, ladies!
10. The Market Tea Room and Country Store - 322 Little Brooke Ln, West Columbia, SC 29172
This little known secret tea room is tucked away inside The Market Restaurant at the SC State Farmers Market. Reservations for tea are needed. Use the "Book Now" button

11. McCray House Tea Room and Gift Shop - 4064 US-378, McCormick, SC 29835
McCray House in McCormick is known for their superb lunch menu. They're open for lunch Thursday - Saturday. But ladies, they will open any day of the week for special tea parties.
