Don’t get us wrong, we love it here. I mean… how could you not? While Western New Yorkers are capable of seeing past the imperfections of the 716, there are some things you should be aware of before you consider calling the Queen City home. Here are 11 reasons why you should never, ever move to Buffalo. Consider yourself warned!
1. If you want mild seasons
While we're fortunate enough to have all four seasons here in Buffalo, they are anything but mild. Before you consider a move to Western New York, be warned that harsh winters and hot, humid summers await you!
2. If you're looking to lose weight
Buffalo foods are delicious, but they don't necessarily qualify as healthy. Go ahead and indulge, just be prepared to gain a few extra pounds!
3. If you want to watch championship teams play
If you're looking to experience the Superbowl or Stanley Cup, Buffalo might not be the place for you. But you should know that losing seasons, we love our teams. Please don't mock them in front of us!
4. If you have a desire to settle down
You'll stay up well past your bedtime on the regular after a move to Buffalo. Many of our bars don't close until 4AM!
5. If you want to live in a new house
While we love the fact that most homes in Buffalo are full of history, some people might not appreciate the architecture like true Buffalonians. If you're looking for a "cookie cutter" home, you might want to consider moving elsewhere (or at least to the suburbs).
6. If you hate inconsistent weather
Sorry, friend. You'll never know how to dress when you live in Buffalo. In the summer, mornings can start out in the 40s with temperatures rising to the mid-80s, and anything goes in the spring, fall, and winter! We have one word of advice for anyone looking to move here: invest in layers.
7. If you suffer from FOMO
Buffalo is experiencing a serious boom in entertainment options, which is a wonderful thing! But it can lead to some serious Fear Of Missing Out. Fill your social calendars to the best of your abilities.
8. If you're afraid of driving in the snow
We Buffalonians are full of pride - and one of our biggest ego trips is knowing how to drive in the snow. Because of this confidence, we can sometimes get a bit crazy on slush-covered roads. If you're nervous about this, stay in the right lane and go at your own pace. But you should be aware that if you use your caution lights during a light snowfall, we will mock you from inside our vehicles.
9. If you want to avoid your neighbors
They don't call us the City of Good Neighbors for nothing! Here in Buffalo, our neighbors are very friendly - and your new neighbors will likely want to become your new best friends quickly after you move here.
10. If you don't like a small town feel
While Buffalo is a decently sized city, it can sometimes feel like more of a small town than anything. The chances are high that you will bump into someone you know at the grocery store or while you're out and about. Be prepared!
11. If you're just passing through
Buffalo is not the best place for a short stint. When you move to Buffalo, you begin experiencing what we refer to as "Buffalove" almost immediately. Guard your hearts if you're not planning to stay long, and start considering the idea of adjusting said plans after you experience the 716!
