If there’s a place in the Natural State that is practically guaranteed to be the abode of good fairies and charming elves, it’s Wattle Hollow Retreat Center. With sweeping views of the Ozark National Forest, you can’t ask for a more picturesque spot than White Rock Mountain. It isn’t difficult to visualize adventure as you gaze out at the forest below or make your way through the woods on the trails of White Rock.

Terra Studios is already full of trolls and dragons, so it’s not a stretch to imagine all the characters come to life in this art park and play in the woods while visitors aren’t looking. Terra Studios has been around for decades, and they’ve been scattering fanciful sculptures all over the woods where this idyllic artists’ haven is located.

In fact, Arkansas’s favorite quirky little city is sometimes called "Little Switzerland."

The mounds are objects of curiosity, for sure, and they seems like a perfect place for a story book hero to ponder the origins of the strange mounds that seem to rise up from the earth.

Depending on the water level, Lake Ouachita has hundreds of scenic islands just waiting to be explored. It also has some of the most pristine water in the Natural State, which makes it one of the only places in the world where (totally harmless) freshwater jellyfish can thrive. Lake Ouachita is a lovely place to imagine intrepid explorers checking off every single island on their adventure, and it’s a great place for you to become an explorer, too.

It wouldn’t be too surprising to me if a mythological creature waited beneath the waters of the lagoon at Blue Spring. Just look at that blue, blue water! The whole place is full of herbs and history, and holds great spiritual significance for Native American tribes in the region.
