Lovers Key State Park near Fort Myers Beach is made up of four barrier islands, covering more than 1,500 acres.
Lovers Key got its name because it was once a secluded island accessible only by boat, making it the perfect destination for lovers. Now, the island is accessible by boardwalk or a short tram ride.
The other islands that make up the park are Long Key, Inner Key, and Black Island. This paradise has everything you could want for a day of fun in the sun, including white beaches, lots of shells, trails, and wildlife.
When you step foot here, you will notice how natural an unspoiled these islands are. The soft white sand feels like flour under your feet, and while there might be a few other visitors, you can rest assured that you'll have plenty of space for your towel and umbrella.
There are more than five miles of trails through the forest for visitors to walk or bike (rentals are available). There are also kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards for rent, so you can truly choose your own adventure.
Although it might not be a secret island for lovers anymore, this is certainly one of the best destinations for lovers of both the beach and Florida wildlife.
Lovers Key State Park is located at 8700 Estero Blvd, Fort Myers Beach, FL 33931. The park is open from 8:00 a.m. until sundown, every day of the year. The entry fee is $8 per carload.
