The House In Idaho That Has The Most Incredible Past

They were real estate moguls who modeled the home after the summer palace of Germany's Kaiser Wilhelm. The couple had been guests of the Kaiser the previous year.

The home was fully wired for electricity and had indoor plumbing. Imported building materials, such as Caracara marble from Italy and crystal chandeliers from Czechoslovakia were installed; furniture was purchased and shipped from France.

Lighted paths, a private zoo with exotic birds and animals, and multiple boat houses graced the property.

Just a few years after the mansion's completion, Lewis became very sick. In January, 1914, while visiting Santa Barbara, Lewis dropped Winifred off at the train station to return to Idaho. Instead of getting back into the limousine, he dismissed his chauffeur and walked off into the dark. He was never seen again.

Winifred lived at the estate until 1922, when she auctioned off all her personal property and went to live with her son in Boston. When she lost the estate, it was valued at just $10,000. Winifred died just over a week after she arrived in Boston.
