Nowadays, you can order common household items online and have them delivered right to your door in a matter of hours. However, there once was a time when each small town had its own general store which often served as a hub for the community. With the advent of big box stores like Walmart and the eCommerce giant, Amazon Prime, it’s pretty rare to see these general stores anymore. Lucky for us, there’s this one amazing shop that’s still going strong and you’ll want to visit it.
Old Village Mercantile was established in 1909 and still operates today in Caledonia, Missouri.
The store is located on Caledonia's Main street, which dates back to the 1800's. The town is considered a National Historic District with 33 homes and businesses on the national register.
The store is filled with candy, jams, antiques, toys, and so much more!
You may remember as a kid putting a coin in one of these and riding on them a few times while your parents shopped. Unfortunately, this one is out of service, but it does add a nostalgic touch to the store.
For a step back in time, be sure to visit this longstanding local shop in Caledonia.
