I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
Kentucky may be a beautiful place to live, but where are the healthiest spots to call home? It can be a hard call to make, as there aren’t ugly spots in the Bluegrass State. Fortunately, County Health does a review each year of health in the counties. The report is based on longevity and quality of life combined, or individualized. The places listed below show higher, healthier results based on both.
Here are the 10 healthiest counties in Kentucky based on reviews in 2015:
Clean air seems to be key here with only 13.1% particle pollution, but water is at 41% contamination in some areas. Smoking, obesity and other health issues are also not bad. Queen Elizabeth II stayed in this charming county in 2007 at the Lands End Farm, while visiting for Derby.
This charming county has no water issues, 13.3% air pollution and only 7% housing issues. It's a charming, and healthy place to call home in the Bluegrass State. Springfield is the county seat for Washington Co.
Clean water and 13.6% air pollution is nothing to frown at. People in this county know how to keep things clean, and lead a healthy life. Elizabethtown is the local county seat but Hardin is also partial home to Sonora and Radcliffe.
The water here is taint free and air pollution is around 14.4%. The amount of commuting accidents takes a drop here. Ironically, Murray is the only city in this county that legally sells alcohol.
This beautiful country county has 0 water contamination and air pollution particles at 13.2%. People in Scott aren’t big smokers or drinkers, which probably adds to their longevity. It has charming towns like Muddy Ford, Turkey Foot, Biddle, Stamping Ground, and Georgetown.
Air pollution ranked in at 13.1%, with water contamination of 24%. The biggest hazard of dying in Jessamine is likely old age. Nicholasville is a nice place to visit if you happen to be traveling through.
Drinking water violations came in at 52%, which seems a bit scary. At least until its compared with some counties that didn’t make the top 10. The 13.1% air pollution does make breathing easier than in big cities. Lexington is the county seat and there are lots of Wildcats, and fans.
The air pollution here is only 13.4%, with no drinking water violations. Housing is available and the area has a low percentage of smokers. The county seat is Shelbyville and they host a grand flea market on the weekends.
With air pollution at 13.5% and 0% drinking water violations, Oldham country is not only beautiful, but also healthy. The biggest cause of death here seems to be old age and commuting long distances. Goshen, LaGrange, PeWee Valley, Orchard Grass Hills, and Prospect are all beautiful communities in this county that still holds onto its healthy, country roots. The image is of LaGrange.
The people of Boone are blessed with clean drinking water and only around 13% air pollution. They ranked number one on the list of healthiest places to live, and after reviewing the findings, it's not surprising. Burlington is the county seat in this beautiful county.
Each county was reviewed by diseases (like Diabetes, Obesity, and Cancer) along with factors such as smoking and proper health care. They then figured in problems like air pollution, water contamination, housing and, believe it or not, commuting via vehicle both long and short. Overall, these counties came out on top as having the healthiest people in Kentucky. If you live in one of these beautiful places, or feel your county or city is the place to be for good health, please comment. What do you think the secret to a long healthy life is?
