The founder was a plumber and gardener named George Turner, who actually drained a lake to plant the garden on the fertile lake bottom, which is why they're called the Sunken Gardens. Mr. Turner loved gardening so much that he just started making these beautiful arrangements of clay tiles and his neighbors loved walking through the garden so much that he decided to make it a tourist attraction and open it up to the public in the 30s.

Here you'll find over 50,000 plants, including exotic species from around the globe. Features include a koi pond, a Meditation patio, and even a waterfall just to name a few.

Fauna in the gardens includes Chilean flamingos, a tortoise, macaws, and koi. The 4-acre gardens are the perfect size for a short visit or a leisurely stay as you casually stroll through the gardens. We particularly love the flamingos and could sit and watch these majestic birds for hours.
