We may be known as leaders in all things weird from the outside looking in, but here at home, these are just normal things that help give our city personality. While many of these are relatively new span of tradition, these events have passed the 10-year mark and have developed strong roots in the community.
1. World Naked Bike Ride
This annual event takes place in other cities all over the world too, but we do it really big here. Seeing up to 10,000 riders annually, this event is a Portland mainstay that has taken place for over a decade.
2. Zoo Bomb
Every week Portlanders gather in the West Hills to ride down on predominately children's and minibikes for some epic downhill fun. Starting at the zoo and heading downward at up to 35 MPH, the ride, which has been taking place since 2002, happens at dark and throughout the night every Sunday.
3. Adult Soapbox Derby
Held the third Saturday of August, this annual event takes place on Mt. Tabor. Racers ride in their handmade devices after receiving one push from the top for this exciting volunteer-fueled event.
4. Santacon
One Santa event is not enough in Portland - we have three! We have Santacon, Anticon and Summer Santacon because we just have so much Santa love to give.
5. Tuba Christmas
Every Christmas for over 20 years, 250 tuba players have gathered during Christmas time to put on an epic tuba show at Pioneer Courthouse. The free performance is just one of the many ways that Portlanders get into the Christmas spirit.
