Those of us in Denver are some of the richest people in the world… wouldn’t you agree? Not only does living in the most beautiful city on earth make us rich, but so does the surrounding landscape and good people we call our neighbors. Okay, okay; I know you are rolling your eyes at me, so I will cut to the chase with these 5 people who have the most money in all of Denver:
1.) Charlie Ergen ($16.7 B)
Sure, you may have never heard of Mr. Ergen, but if you are a subscriber to Dish Network and/or EchoStar, you have contributed to this CEO and co-founders wealth! Born in Tennessee, Ergen and his family now call Denver home and boast the title of not only the richest people in the city, but in the entire state. (To put the wealth of his companies into perspective, he "only" owns 52% of the shares and holds.)
2.) Philip Anschutz ($10.1 B)
Colorado is chock full of inventors and entrepreneurs... but an entrepreneur who made a BIG return on railroad, real estate, and stock investments? There is only one Philip Anschutz, who would go on to make even more money by co-founding Major League Soccer and owning stakes in multiple basketball teams and entertainment venues. Anschutz and his family currently reside in Denver.
3.) Stan Kroenke ($7.4 B)
*Technically* Stan Kroenke spends most of his time in his Columbia, Missouri home. However, the owner of the Colorado Mammoth, Rapids, and Pepsi Center (among other things) also owns a home in Denver, so we will count him as our own!
4.) John C. Malone ($7.2 B)
Believe it or not, the former CEO of Tele-Communications Inc. and current chairman of Liberty Media, Liberty Global, and Liberty Interactive doesn't live in Denver, but the southern suburb of Parker. (If you have ever visited this area, you will understand why!)
5.) James Leprino ($2.9 B)
It would seem as though Mr. Leprino is a little camera shy (since there are basically no photos of him to be found), but I guess you can be when you're worth a cool $2.9 Billion! The CEO of the world's largest manufacturer of mozzarella cheese lives in the small Denver-area Indian Hills. (Pictured is the Leprino Foods headquarters, which -- you guessed it -- was named after the Leprino family!)
