There's A Cheese Trail In New York And It's Everything You Ever Dreamed Of

When it comes to trails that don’t require us to grab our hiking boots, our most famous one to explore is the Finger Lakes Wine Trail. But to no surprise, this isn’t the only delicious trail in the region that your taste buds will thank you for exploring. Make your way around the shores of both Cayuga and Seneca Lakes and you’ll get to experience New York’s ultimate Cheese Trail!
With a driving time of only 4 hours, you could easily complete the Cheese Trail over the course of one weekend.
1. Engelbert Farms - Nichols
First up, you'll visit the famous Engelbert Farms! The family farm has been operating in the same location since the early 1900s and has been farming organically since the early 1980s! These guys know exactly what they're doing. Engelbert's cheese is made with milk from their organic cows, where each batch is made with love by hand.

2. Sunset View Creamery - Odessa
Serving up amazing cheese that's made from fresh milk produced on the farm, Sunset View Creamery has been a family run farm since the early 1900s. The farm covers over 400 acres of land and is the famous location for the Finger Lakes Cheese Festival that takes place every July!

3. Shtayburne Farm - Rock Steam
One of the most popular destinations to visit along the Cheese Trail, Shtayburne Farm decided to add a creamery and store to their farm back in 2010. Now home to a cheese processing facility as well as a cheese shop and tasting room, you'll have a hard time deciding what flavors of cheese you'll want to bring home with you!

4. Kenton's Cheese Company - Trumansburg
Award-winning cows? This cheese must be good! Out around the Ithaca area you'll find that quite a few local restaurants are getting their cheese from the wonderful Kenton's Cheese Company. Another place where you may have experienced this amazingly soft cheese? The Ithaca Farmers Market! A location on this trail that will have your mouth watering, you'll love all the cheese you'll taste at Kenton's.

5. Crosswinds Farm & Creamery - Ovid
Head out to the tiny village of Ovid and you'll find major flavors waiting for you inside of the Crosswinds Farm & Creamery! Brown Swiss dairy cows are the source of Crosswinds' amazing cheese that you'll experience on your visit here.

6. Muranda Cheese Company - Waterloo
Can we take a moment to talk about how spoiled this region is to have such an incredible abundance of cheese producers? They also make their own products from fresh milk that they get from cows on their farms. Another amazing location on this trail, Muranda Cheese is made with milk from cows that are raised on site! Valuing the importance of great tasting products, you'll never be disappointed with the cheese you taste from this company! Featuring a beautiful tasting room that you'll never want to leave, you'll love being out in this area of New York.

7. Finger Lakes Dexter Creamery - King Ferry
A real gem of the Cheese Trail, this particular location will win you over with their unique Kefir cheese! Produced at their own Micro-Dairy, the farm is the first and only producer in the western hemisphere to offer authentic, probiotic kefir cheese. Incredible, huh? The farm uses flavorful milk from their Irish Dexter cows, giving your taste buds a ride they'll never forget.

8. Side Hill Acres - Candor
Last but absolutely not least, one of our favorite stops along the Cheese Trail is Side Hill Acres. Another unique location, you won't find that your cheese is being made with cows milk here! Established in the late 1980s, this goat farm wows visitors with all of their amazing goat products. From cheese to soap and so much more, there's a variety of products you'll want to bring back home with you. The farm features over 150 goats that you'll love being able to visit with!
