Food trucks are awesome… what could possibly be better than a delicious meal on wheels? The food truck trend has swept the nation, but Milwaukee is leading the way with some of the best-of-the-best! Here are ten tasty trucks that you definitely need to chase down!
1. Roll MKE
Roll MKE serves up of the best sandwiches in the city (and some fantastic hand-cut fries)! This is one of those spots where you can order literally anything on the menu and walk away in a happy food coma. The Brisket Grilled Cheese is definitely a favorite and the Pork Belly Sliders are equally out-of-this-world. Their burgers might just make you give up on all others. The best part: it's cheap. Everything on their menu is $8 and includes a side of fries and a drink. They change up the menu specials frequently, so even if you've had everything on the (current) menu, you can count on finding something new in the near future!
You can keep up with Roll MKE’s location on Twitter
@rollMKE.
2. Tacos El Charrito
These street tacos are the real deal. El Charrito proves that the best tacos are the simplest ones; there's no need to dress them up when the ingredients are fresh and perfectly seasoned. Their menu is straightforward - you pick a dish and pick a meat (there are 14 options to choose from!) - and they work their magic on your meal. While the tacos are definitely the all-around favorite, El Charrito's burritos are a close second and they also offer quesadillas, tortas, and tostadas. El Charrito's prices simply cannot be beat: it's only $1.75 per taco and the most expensive item on the menu is the quesadilla gigante (which is, indeed, gigantic) for $6.25. You'll walk away stuffed for under $10!
El Charrito has several food trucks that serve the city and you can stay up-to-date on their different locations on the
El Charrito Facebook page.
3. YellowBellies
YellowBellies' pulled rotisserie chicken is amazing... which is why it makes an appearance on nearly every one of their delicious sandwiches (they do occasionally offer a few pulled pork specials and there is also a vegan item on the menu for non-carnivores)! One of the most unique parts of their masterful meals is their bread, which is handmade and really more like thick pita (and keeps the sandwich from getting soggy). They definitely don't skimp on portions, so bring along a big appetite!
YellowBellies is currently closed for the winter season, but we can’t wait for their return in spring! Don’t miss their much-anticipated reopening and stay up to date with the truck’s location on the
YellowBellies Facebook page or on Twitter
@yellow_bellies_.
4. Marco Pollo
The Marco Pollo-Global Cluck Truck has something for everyone and serves up dishes inspired by different cuisines from around the world (hence their name's play on words with the early explorer Marco Polo). The menu is simple: you'll get epic fried chicken slathered with various homemade sauce options reflective of different culinary cultures. The Khula Chicken is a popular choice, as is the Marcocito, but there really isn't a bad sauce on this menu. If you are looking for lighter fare, you can request grilled chicken, but Marco Pollo's breading isn't as heavy as others and the fried chicken is deliciously crispy and hard to say no to!
5. Sushi Go!
Sushi Go rocks… and rolls! (Nope, we won't apologize for that terrible joke. We regret nothing.) You don’t need to go to a fancy sushi bar to find delicious sushi, and if you have yet to see a sushi burrito, you are in for a BIG, tasty surprise. It’s exactly what it sounds like: a sushi roll so large you need both hands to eat it. Sushi Go offers a creative take on traditional rolls, making them entirely their own (try that Tunageddon). The result is an amazingly fresh and unique meal that will definitely leave your taste buds wanting more.
You will find Sushi Go at many local events and can keep up with their whereabouts on their
Facebook page and Sushi Go recently made an epic announcement: they are opening up a storefront soon!
6. The Gouda Girls
If you are looking for the best Grilled Cheese in town, look no further than The Gouda Girls! Owners Tina and Katherine celebrate Wisconsin's glorious cheese in the most delightful way by putting as much of it has possible on every sandwich they whip up. These ladies are serious cheeseheads! If you aren't a fan of gouda, don't worry; these have tons of varieties of tasty Wisconsin cheeses to top your sandwiches!
You can track the travels of The Gouda Girls truck on their
Facebook page, and if you just can’t wait to chow down on a heavenly, cheesy treat, you are in luck! They just opened a brick-and-mortar storefront at 1125 N 9th Street in Milwaukee.
7. Meat on the Street
Filipino food has never tasted so good! Meat on the Street has an absolutely fantastic menu filled with a variety of delicious rice and noodle bowls and kebabs. The Pork Adobo is definitely a favorite, but you really can't go wrong with any of the excellently seasoned dishes on their menu. Despite their name, they DO actually offer vegetarian options as well!
Meat on the Street posts location updates every Sunday on their
Facebook page, but you can also find the at their brick-and-mortar restaurant at 1125 N. 9th Street, Milwaukee!
8. Stuffed Pierogi Truck
We can't get enough of these pierogies! These traditional Polish dumplings might just be stuffed with magic. It you have never tried pierogis before, head straight for this fantastic food truck... but be warned: these pierogies will ruin your taste for all others for life. Not only are they super delicious, they are also super reasonably priced; depending on which stuffing you choose, you'll receive four tasty little bundles of joy with a side of sauce for $5-$6, and you can upgrade and add awesome Polish sausage to any dish for only $2!
The Stuffed Pierogi Truck pops up at many local events and you can track the truck’s location on
Facebook or on Twitter
@StuffedPierogi
9. Taqueria Buenavista
It's hard to beat food truck tacos, but it's even harder to beat Taqueria Buenavista tacos. They are cheap ($2 per taco), perfectly seasoned, and just all-around everything you want in a taco. Taqueria Buenavista definitely doesn't skimp on portions - the tortillas can barely contain all of the meat! The Carne Asada tacos are definitely a highlight here, as are the terrific hot sauces you can top them with. If you are in a hurry, you can call in your order to reduce wait time (but these tacos are always worth waiting for)!
10. Burger Meister / Truck Meister
Some days, you just need a big, juicy burger. On those days, you need to go find Truck Meister. These enormous gourmet burgers are made to order and served on brioche buns with out-of-this-world homemade chips or epic fries (both are excellent choices). Truck Meister goes above and beyond the classic burger with creative options, including a Mahi Burger and Portobello Burger that are equally as tasty as the original. The Baconmeister is a thing of pure beauty that everyone in this city should experience at least once in their lifetime (and by "once" we mean as many times as humanly possible).
There are two trucks roaming the streets of Milwaukee and you can keep up with their daily locations on the
Truck Meister Facebook page or on the
Truck Meister website. Some of their usual spots are at the US Bank Center, Chase Bank Tower, and Red Arrow Park.
Are your taste buds tingling yet? Prepare yourself, because there are some incredible food trucks in your future. The hardest part will be trying to decide which one to try (or try again) first!
