Love it or hate it, there’s no place like Connecticut. It’s a state that grows on you, and once you’ve lived here it’s hard to leave the nutmegger life behind. Even if you love your new place of residence, Connecticut is sure to cross your mind once or twice. In fact, here are some of the thoughts you’ll probably have:
1. "I could really use a good slice of pizza."
Did you know Frank Pepe Pizzeria was voted the best pizza in America? And they're not our only star pizza maker! The likes of Pizza Hut is just not going to cut it.
2. "This is autumn?"
Once you've experienced the fall season in Connecticut, it's hard to accept anything less. Folks travel from all over to see the leaves change here.
3. "Is there anything to do around here?"
One of Connecticut's signature traits is its collection of unique day trips. Visit the Trash Museum, ride a trolley, see the world's largest jack-in-the-box and more. You're going to miss our family friendly attractions.
4. "I used to like driving."
With its network of
scenic roads , driving is relatively peaceful, especially when you take the back roads. Even more congested areas still have rolling hills and lots of trees. Switching to a concrete jungle can be a difficult transition.
5. "I guess the weather wasn't so bad."
Folks tend to think Connecticut weather is a little harsh, with its cold winters and occasional hurricanes. But when they move away, they realize how mild our winters actually are. We also don't have to worry about wildfires, earthquakes, or tornadoes, so you realize pretty quickly how good you had it.
6. "Small towns aren't the same without the Colonial charm."
Turns out every small town is not the same. New England's colonial charm is ever present in the small state of Connecticut, and even if you move to another small town in your new state, it just won't be the same.
7. "This is not a lobster roll."
Watch out! The warm, drizzled with butter lobster roll is unique to the Constitution State. And it's way better than the cold lobster salad you get everywhere else.
8. "I shouldn't have to drive to nature."
Why isn't every state overflowing with nature? It's a question you'll find yourself asking again and again. We have plenty of parks, but nature is never far away.
9. "Where's the Quiet Corner?"
Discovering that your new state may not have a peaceful region, unaffected by fast paced city dwellers and filled with sights, can be a bit disheartening. The Northeast region of Connecticut is the heart of the state, where quaint living is still the norm.
10. "What do you mean you don't believe in ghosts?"
Grow up in one of the most haunted states in America and you learn that there's more than meets the eye. You never know where a ghost could be lurking. And if you like seeking them out, there's no better place for hunting them than right here at home.
11. "Antiques? Are there any antiques?"
Litchfield County is a hotspot for antique shopping, and the rest of the state has followed suit. With our oversized storefronts and massive flea markets, this place is a shopping dream you just can't replace.
12. "Bye bye taxes."
Let's face it. Taxes are a big reason people leave, especially after retirement. Business is business, but that doesn't mean you won't miss all the good this state has to offer.
13. "There's no place like Connecticut."
So it's not perfect - no state is - but it will always be home.
