This Small Town City Hall In Florida Is One Of The Most Unique In America

Every town needs a city hall, and they’re usually housed in drab office buildings that you wouldn’t think twice about. Thanks to an interesting time in Florida’s history, this small town ended up with one of the most interesting city hall buildings we’ve ever seen:

This might look like a buidling at EPCOT, but it's actually in a little city near Miami called Opa-Locka.

In fact, this fascinating piece of architecture was actually the town's city hall up until 2009, with current plans aimed at restoring the building.

If the domes and minarets remind you of something out of a storybook, that's because the town was developed with an Arabian Nights theme in mind, during the Florida land boom of the 1920s.

The city was once full of similar buildings, with street names like Ali Baba Boulevard and Sinbad Street.

Now, only a handful of these buildings remain, and as the town teeters on bankruptcy, they aren't always getting the upkeep they need. Another example of the Moorish Revival style is the Seaboard Air Line Train Station, seen here.

The Harry Hurt Building is another example. If you want to see these historic buildings, keep in mind that the town has suffered financial problems in recent years. Hopefully, someone will step in and preserve these incredible structures.
