Thinking of moving to Nebraska? Congratulations! That’s a great idea. Before you relocate to our lovely state, though, there are a few things you should prepare yourself for…
The whole state isn't just farms.
There are a lot of ranches, too. There's a difference.
And we have some cities, too!
If you want to get away from the country and enjoy some big-city amenities, we've got you covered.
The state isn't all flat, either.
Nebraska has a reputation for being totally flat, but we've got some impressive scenery for you that goes way past prairies and plains.
There is some AMAZING scenery if you leave I-80.
The interstate that runs through the state has a reputation for being an excruciatingly boring drive. It's a fast way to get through Nebraska, but there aren't a lot of interesting sights along the way. Leave the interstate, go exploring, and you'll see some of the nation's greatest natural beauty (along with some great towns).
We can serve up some world-class cuisine.
Nebraska's down-home cooking is legendary, but we've got plenty of high-class eateries as well.
There are a million things to do!
Most people think Nebraska is boring, but have we got some surprises for you. From Broadway shows to the world's best zoo to loads of fantastic museums and natural wonders, there's always something awesome to do here.
Winters are brutal.
In less-populated areas, you'd better have a truck with a snowplow on the front or at least have a friend who does. Otherwise you could be housebound for DAYS.
And so are the summers.
You've undoubtedly heard that cheesy saying, "It's not the heat, it's the humidity." In Nebraska, it's both. 99 degrees with 90 percent humidity? We call that July.
The people really are as friendly as you've heard.
When you get to your new home, don't be surprised when the neighbors come over with a pie or some cookies or just a handshake and a nice "Welcome to the neighborhood."
Once you live here, you'll never want to leave.
Most people who've moved away reminisce about Nebraska for the rest of their lives. So maybe just do yourself a favor and stay put once you get here. We'll be happy to have you!
