Delaware is an opinionated state, and we aren’t shy about sharing our views on a plethora of issues! As a very tiny state in a very populated part of the country, we often feel overlooked and ignored by the rest of the country. Here are 9 things that every Delawarean wants EVERYONE to know.
1. We *do* exist!
Believe it or not, there are a ton of people who don't even know that Delaware is a state. Well, listen up, America - Delaware not only exists, but it's one of the best states in the country.
2. We've got beach towns other than Rehoboth Beach
Sure, Rehoboth is great, and we all have amazing memories of Dolles and Gus & Gus, but our other beach towns are just as incredible! Whether you like the history and charm of Lewes, the party atmosphere of Dewey Beach, or the serenity of Fowler and Prime Hook beach, there's a sandy spot for every type of person.
3. We love our rural towns.
Delaware is so much more than just a highway that passes through our most urban areas! The vast majority of the state is rural, and we love it that way.
4. Our State Parks are STUNNING.
White Clay Creek is woodsy paradise, Killen's Pond is a nature lover's heaven, and Lums Pond is great for anyone with a sense of adventure. Though not everyone thinks about nature's beauty when they think of Delaware, our state parks prove that Delaware is one of the most gorgeous states in the nation.
5. Dumplings are supposed to be FLAT.
Enough with this round dough ball trend.
6. Scrapple is the BEST breakfast meat.
Really, the fact that most of the country doesn't eat scrapple with their eggs is just a tragedy. Find some, wherever you are... just don't try to figure out what is in it.
7. Our history is unrivaled.
Don't forget that Delaware was the FIRST state in the Nation, and has been a critical state for most of the important founding moments in our country's history.
8. Wilmington is Underrated
Sure, there are bad areas of Wilmington, and the city has a problem with crime in certain sections. But the majority of the town is charming, historic, and full of great restaurants and great nightlife. Try a night out in Trolley Square before you talk smack on our largest city.
9. We take our food VERY seriously.
From world-famous Delaware Bay Oysters to some of the best restaurants in the country, Delaware is a foodie state, through and through.
